![]() In Basic, they gave us a certain amount of time to don our NBC gear, in real life, everything just gets on you at lightspeed, making Basic look like a Joke. ![]() In order to properly react to an NBC attack, training under duress is necessary. There was a Sandstorm that night and into the next day, but it was a learning experience. I ended up falling asleep with my Mask on that night. I ofcourse, was in PTs in the Latrine, and not wanting to take any chances, donned my mask, half shaven. and just happened to have been shaving when our first SCUD alert came in. I was at Camp Arafjan waiting to go North, with 3ID. That's so funny, because they first time I ever wore my mask out of necessity was during the first three days of OIF 1. ![]() I got one cap that does work with the USGI canteens but right now they are not a very common item. I tend to think that the design is however similar to the S-10 and S-12 masks the Brits issue so maybe this is going to become a new NATO standard. Another thing about the new mask is the filters use a bayonet mount rather than the 40mm NATO threaded design and the drinking tube is not compatible with the M1 canteen caps we are currently issued. Easy to change and easier to breath through than the standard MCU/M-40 masks but they do tend to get in the way when firing a rifle unlike the older masks did. A few things different about this mask is that the filters are issued in pairs sort of like the M-17A2 of my younger days but in an external design rather than contained in the cheeks like the M-17 did. However, now the new mask coming on line is the new Avon M-50 mask. Currently, the issue masks were the MCU-2A/P for both the Navy and Air Force while the Marines and Army were using the M-40A1.
